Social Skills Groups
Sensory Zone Social Skills Groups
Sensory Zone Social Groups employ the Social Thinking curriculum developed by Michelle Garcia Winner that is individually adapted to each student. Groups focus on problem solving, personal advocacy and social relatedness that are fundamental to friendships and essential for interacting with peers. Goals of social groups include following unwritten social rules, sharing space and thinking about others, being part of a group and recognizing expectations, self awareness and adjusting behavior and language to the thoughts and expectations of others.
The children will learn and practice these skills through group interactions and directed activities. They will be encouraged and presented with activities to practice these skills outside of the group. Parents will be provided with feedback and recommendations to incorporate these newly learned strategies at home.
